Set Up Items for the Walmart Restored Program

Updated 7 months ago by Merch Transformation Change Management

Here's information about the Walmart Restored program and how to set up restored items using Item 360.

What Is the Walmart Restored Program?

Walmart Restored is a program designed to help approved DSV suppliers offer high-quality refurbished items on Walmart.com. We strive to provide a superior shopping experience where our customers can discover, compare, and shop for quality refurbished products that look and work like new.

The program ensures approved suppliers offer items that meet high quality and performance standards. These standards are uniform across all approved categories, and all items have a 90-day free return window. The Walmart Restored program goals include checking the refurbished items in the existing Walmart catalog to remove duplicates and group variants to maximize conversion.

  • All domestic, dotcom DSV suppliers in the approved categories are eligible to create products for the Walmart Restored program. If you are not currently approved for the program, your submission will be reviewed and you will be added to the approved list if all qualifications are met.
  • If you or your products do not meet the eligibility criteria, please do not attempt to set up restored items or select condition type "Restored" for your items in Item 360. Doing so will cause system errors for your items.

Walmart Restored Eligibility

Approved DSV suppliers for the Walmart Restored program are determined based on consistent refurbished Product Quality Requirements. These requirements include proof that the DSV suppliers are the manufacturer or have purchased refurbished inventory directly from the manufacturer or authorized seller. Additionally, program participants must be in good standing with better than average performance ratings on Walmart.com. Suppliers in good standing adhere to DSV Program Requirements & Performance Standards and have a history of superior performance. Walmart will review your account and inventory to ensure you meet all the program requirements prior to approval.

An item that is designated as Walmart Restored means that the item is in like-new condition with minor to no imperfections. It was professionally inspected, tested, cleaned, and refurbished to its original specifications by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor.

Once you meet the requirements, you can select "Restored" from the Condition drop-down found during the item creation process. Only eligible DSV suppliers will be allowed to use the term "Restored" in their listings.

Product Quality Requirements

To be approved as a Walmart Restored supplier, your products must have an electronic component and meet the following requirements:

  • Items must be fully functional, professionally inspected, cleaned and refurbished to the program’s grading standard.
  • Products must appear like new. The body may have very light micro-scratches, invisible at a distance of 8-12 inches (arm’s length). For items with screens, the screen must have no scratches.
  • Items must be in excellent technical condition. Durability scores must be high and chances of encountering technical issues are low. Battery life, where applicable, must be 80% or higher.
  • Products with displays cannot have dead or stuck pixels. Displays should function like the original item (new equivalent) with no signs of dimness.
  • Where applicable, products must be restored to their original factory settings and must be fully unlocked for use.
  • Where applicable, products must be upgradeable to the latest firmware supported by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
  • Products must include all accessories that come with the newly purchased item.
  • Consumable accessories (air and water filters, brushes, strings, etc.) must be in new condition.
    • Where applicable, wall plugs must be compatible to the region where the product is sold.
    • Products that come with a remote control should have a remote control that is already paired with the receiver. Alternatively, the package must contain an instruction manual on how the customer can pair the remote with the receiver and troubleshoot communication issues.
  • Original instruction manuals must be included where required by law.
    • Where not required, we highly encourage inclusion of instruction manuals in order to provide a better customer experience and aid in the reduction of negative reviews and returns. If a physical instruction manual is not available, include a link or reference to the manufacturer's instruction manual.
  • Suppliers must comply with Walmart requirements for packaging and shipping items.
  • Any end user data must be removed in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Standard on Media Sanitization or other applicable local regulations and standards.
    • Suppliers must perform a complete forensic destruction of all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and all other data that originated with or related to an end user contained on or in any hardware, software, or media component of each product before sale. Examples of end user data include (but are not limited to): name, date of birth, fingerprints or other biometric data, Social Security Number, street address, email address, cloud storage account, and credit card information.
  • Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) shipments containing Lithium batteries require WERCS compliance.

Set Up Walmart Restored Items

Approved DSV suppliers in the Walmart Restored program will set up restored items using the standard item setup process in Item 360. Before you begin restored item setup, please ensure that you have the following product identifiers ready to avoid upload errors. If you don't follow these guidelines, the system may match the restored item with a new item in the Walmart catalog, which would lead to customer confusion and dissatisfaction.

  • Use a unique product identifier: The UPC or GTIN for the restored product must be different from the original product ID. The original product ID is the product ID of an item if it were purchased in new condition (also referred to as a new equivalent product ID).
Suppliers are responsible for providing their own product IDs. If a unique product identifier does not yet exist for a refurbished item, you are responsible for any fees incurred while obtaining one. For more information, please review Product Identifiers.
  • Adjust the Model Number: If you upload an item with a model number, use a different model number for the refurbished item than the one that would be used for a new item. A common way of adjusting this model number might be to append RB to the model number (e.g., New Model Number: TEST_10101 Refurbished Model Number: TEST-10101RB).
  • Assign a unique SKU to the refurbished item: Suppliers cannot duplicate SKUs in Item 360. We recommend adding an indicator to the used item SKU to differentiate it from a new item. Document the difference between the SKUs for new and refurbished items, or it may be difficult to find and fulfill the item. This use case is applicable to any item in your catalog, not just new and refurbished versions of the same item.
New and restored items cannot be part of the same variant group.
