Pre-Item Setup Requirements FAQs

Updated 3 months ago by Merch Transformation Change Management

As of September 18, 2024, U.S. suppliers are automatically redirected from Item 360 to Supplier One for item and inventory workflows. Suppliers who also sell in Canada and category advisors will continue using Item 360.
Setup is not yet supported in Item 360 for: Assortments, Import Shippers (General Merchandise), Pharmacy, and Fees. Please continue using your current processes (e.g., legacy workflows or systems).

Our Pre-Item Setup Requirements course offers an understanding of the actions and processes that should be completed prior to Walmart Item Setup (i.e., Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) standards, WERCS, etc.).

Here are some common questions and answers about pre-item setup requirements in Item 360:

1. I'm encountering an "alphanumerical error" in my uploaded spreadsheet. How can I resolve this?

Use the Attribute Finder in Item 360 or check the instructions in the attribute definition and requirements cell (Row 6) of your spreadsheet to find examples of how attribute values should be formatted.

2. Do you foresee Item 360 being used for Direct Import item creation in the future, or will it only be used for domestic items?

Setup will be available to all suppliers who have Direct Import Items and Fashion items that are in “complete” status in Supplier Quote. Learn more in this article.

We encourage you to complete this self-paced, on-demand course in Supplier Academy, which you can access via Retail Link > Academy > Getting Started (under Quick Learning Articles) > Item Setup and Management Basics (under Walmart Item 360 Item Setup) > Item 360 | Basics & Direct Import Setup & Maintenance.

  • Additional versions of this course are available in other languages. Learn more in this article.
You should continue using Online Item File to set up and manage Import Assortments and Import Shippers (General Merchandise).

3. If my items are shared (stores and online) but have different case packs, do I still need to select "Yes" in the first question of the item setup questionnaire?

If your stores and online items have different case packs, you will need to create them as two separate items – one for each configuration. For the stores item, select "Yes" in the first question of the item setup questionnaire. For the online item, select "No".

4. My product contains a chemical that was liquid but is not anymore. Do I still need a WERCS assessment?

If it is still a chemical, you will need a WERCS assessment for the item.

5. Can I convert a shared item to a store-only item?

You will need to work with your Walmart merchant, who can initiate the process by contacting Item Ops.

6. If I have a Case Pack change, will I also need to have a new GTIN or can I create a new Walmart Item Number (WIN) with the existing GTIN?

Case Pack changes will require a new GTIN, and the new configuration will be assigned a new Walmart Item Number.

7. Can I convert an online-only item to shared (stores and online)? When creating the .com item, I selected "No" in the first question of the item setup questionnaire.

Items can be converted from online-only to shared, but this process requires assistance from the Walmart Tech team. Our preferred process for suppliers is to set up the store-only item first and then work with your Walmart merchant, who can contact Item Ops to initiate the process to convert that store-only item to shared.

8. For GDSN-synced products, can I update dimensions in Item 360 or must I update them using my GDSN data pool provider?

If your item is synced with GDSN, you will have to update the dimensions using your GDSN data pool provider.

9. I'm a third-party seller who asks the manufacturers to share the WERCS assessment with Walmart. Can I verify that they did?

Currently, there is no way to verify this in Item 360. You will need to work with the manufacturers get this information.

10. If I don't go through a Data Sync provider, do I just complete all item setup directly in Item 360?

Yes, you can set up your items directly in Item 360.

11. How long does it take for WERCS information to reflect in Item 360 once it has been shared?

The process only takes a few days, but we recommend that you submit your WERCS assessment one week prior to setting up your item in Item 360.

12. When are we supposed to start using Item 360 to set up and maintain our items?

You may use Item 360 now except for these areas: Assortments, Import Shippers (General Merchandise), Pharmacy, and Fees. If you support one of these areas, please continue using your current processes (e.g., legacy workflows or systems).
