Rich Media Specifications

Updated 2 months ago by Merch Transformation Change Management

As of September 18, 2024, U.S. suppliers are automatically redirected from Item 360 to Supplier One for item and inventory workflows. Suppliers who also sell in Canada and category advisors will continue using Item 360.

Here are our guidelines for rich media like videos and 360 spin images. Make sure your videos and 360 spin images meet these requirements before submitting your changes in Item 360.

Item 360 allows you to upload one video and one 360 view per item. If you submit more than one video or 360 view for an item, the most recent submission will override the existing content.
Walmart.com item pages support up to eight videos and one 360 view per item. You may provide multiple videos, including an interactive video, through Connected Content Partners.
You cannot select or update the video thumbnail that appears on Walmart.com.

Video Guidelines

Rich Media Video Asset URLs:

  • Should end in the .mp4 file type to follow best practices
  • Must have no redirects

Rich Media Closed Captioning URLs:

  • Should end in the .vtt file type to follow best practices
  • Must have no redirects

Rich Media Accessibility Vendor Checklist:

  • Accessibility (A11y) ensures people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with any website or app
  • Rich media must meet these guidelines to be compliant with A11y
For videos with only music, the best practice is to put a single [MUSIC PLAYING] caption frame that drops off screen after 10 seconds or so.
For videos with no music, no audio, and no sound, the best practice is to put a single [NO SPEECH] caption frame that drops off screen after 10 seconds or so.

360 Spin Image Guidelines

File size limit:

  • The file size limit for each image is 1.5 MB

360 Spin Image URLs:

  • Should end in an image file type (.jpg, .png, etc.) to follow best practices
  • Must link to a public image file that loads as an image

An exact number of 24 image URLs is required for a 360 spin image. For optimal viewing, we recommend providing 24 unique images.

However, if you only have 12 images, you can repeat the URLs to meet the 24-image requirement (essentially cycling through the images twice). To do this, copy the URLs you provided under 360 Spin Image URL through 360 Spin Image URL 11 (Columns E-P). Then, paste the URLs into the cells under 360 Spin Image URL 12 through 360 Spin Image URL 23 (Columns Q-AB).

Creating URLs

Cloudinary

Cloudinary allows you to create URLs for MP4s, VTT files, and images in one place. Signup for Cloudinary is free, but the service may require payment depending on your storage amount.

  1. Log in to https://cloudinary.com/.
  2. Click Media Library in the left navigation menu.
  3. Click Upload.
  4. You can drag and drop video, VTT, or image files directly onto the screen or browse and select files from your computer.
Each file cannot exceed 100 MB.
  5. Hover over the video, VTT, or image file and click the dots that appear. Then, hover over Share and click Copy URL.
To confirm the URL is valid, open a new tab in your browser and paste in the copied URL. The URL should end with the video file type (.mp4), VTT file type (.vtt), or image file type (.jpg).

Creating Closed Captioning (.vtt) Files

There are many resources that you can use to create closed captioning (.vtt) files. Maestra is one example that is free for the first 30 minutes of video content.

  1. Log in to https://app.maestrasuite.com/captions.
  2. Click Subtitle in the left navigation menu.
  3. Click +New Subtitle.
  4. You can drag and drop video files directly onto the screen or browse and select files from your computer. Make sure the audio language selected is English. Then, click the Submit button.
  5. Click the video name.
  6. Click Export.
  7. Select English and click WebVTT.
When the WebVTT tile says Ready, click it again.
Remember to create a URL of the VTT file. See the previous section for instructions on how to create a Closed Captioning URL using Cloudinary.
